Yan Hu Suo (Corydalis ambigua) is a tuberous early flowering plant in the Papaveraceae family. The leaves are fern-like, twice or thrice-complex. Corollas are violet-blue, 16–20 mm long, wide or narrower. Inflorescences are racemose or single flowers on long peduncles. The upper petal has a pronounced spur, in which nectar accumulates. Nectar is accessible only to insects with a long proboscis (for example, bumblebees). Other Yan Hu Suo pollinators are male mosquitoes and female flies. The fruit is a dry capsule-shaped box. Yan Hu Suo blooms in May and June.
