Sweet Violet (Viola Odorata) is a perennial wintergreen terrestrial herb up to 15 cm high. The rhizome is creeping; the leaves are basal. The entire plant is densely covered with large hairs. Solitary flowers develop in the axils of the basal leaves. Petals are dark purple, rarely white; the lower petal is slightly wider than the others. Blossoming period is in April and early May; fruiting season is in June. The fruit is a spherical, three-sided, and pubescent with short hairs, one-celled greenish capsule. Seeds are small, obovate, spread exclusively by ants.
