Gymnema (Gymnema Sylvestre) naturally grows in the tropical forests of central and southern India, which is its historical homeland, found on the island of Sri Lanka. Gymnema is a highly branched, perennial, evergreen plant. This is a large tree vine capable of rooting in nodes. The stems of the plant are bare, branched, lignified, young tips are pubescent. Gymnema leaves are simple, placed opposite, elliptical or oval. Liana flowers are small, yellowish, bisexual, regular, collected in umbellate inflorescences. Gymnema fruits are paired, open, fusiform leaflets.
