The main root of the Sanqi is a conical or cylindrical shape, 1 ~ 6cm long, and 1 ~ 4cm diameter. The surface is gray -brown or gray -yellow, with discontinuous vertical wrinkles and bracket marks. There are stem marks on the top and tumor -like protrusions around. Weight, solid quality, gray -green, yellow -green or gray -white, and the wood is slightly radially arranged. The qi is slight, the taste is bitter and sweet. The muscles are cylindrical or conical, with a length of 2 ~ 6cm, a diameter of the upper end of about 0.8cm, and a diameter of the lower end of about 0.3cm. If there are irregular shrinking blocks or strips, there are several obvious stem marks and rings on the surface, gray -green or white in the center of the section, dark green or gray edges. It is better to have a large, heavy weight, solid quality, and gray -green section.
