Olive leaf comes from the same Mediterranean tree as olive oil. Just like the oil expressed from the fruit of this tree, the leaf is rich in nutrients, including a potent antioxidant called oleuropein. Because the structure of the whole leaf is left intact, its chemical composition is less processed and therefore uncompromised. Just as good quality olive oil has a reputation for providing healthy dietary fats and antioxidant compounds, olive leaf contains similar agents, namely hydroxytyrosol, ligustroside and oleuropein. These free-radical scavengers are so potent that they have twice the antioxidant value of green tea extract and 400% more than vitamin C.
