The oil extracted from common evening primrose ( oenothera biennis ) seeds offers a high rate of essential fatty acids (8 to 10% of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and 72% linoleic acid) which has a very wide scope both in dietetic and cosmetic terms. Melvita evening primrose oil is extracted by cold pressing of selected seeds. It is filtered and then purified over fuller's earth and activated carbon in order to remove any mucilaginous substances, any alkaloids and any traces of pesticides. All of these operations are carried out at low temperature in order to preserve the fatty acids and vitamins which give the oil all its virtues.
