What the brand says
Chu Chu Huasi is an enormous canopy tree found in the Amazon rainforest. It has large leaves (10-30 cm), small, white flowers and tough, reddish-brown bark. The native tribes of the Amazon rainforest have been using the bark of Chu Chu Huasi therapeutically for many centuries. Its Peruvian name, Chu Chu Huasi, means “trembling back,” which refers to its long-standing use to assist with back pain. In Columbia, the Siona Indians boil Chuchuhuasi bark in water until the decoction reduces to half. This extraction is regarded as a stimulant as well as an aid for relieving aches. In the lowland rain forest of eastern Ecuador, the Quijos Quichua Indians use a decoction of Chu Chu Huasi for general aching. Local healers and curanderos in the Amazon use Chu Chu Huasi as a general tonic, to assist with healing and, when combined with other beneficial plants, as a synergist for many types of ailments. In Peru, it is prepared by macerating root bark and letting it steep for eight days in aguardiente (sugar cane liquor). The resulting infusion is alleged to be an aphrodisiac. Chu Chu Huasi is a powerhouse of plant chemicals, such as triterpenes, favonols, and sesquiterpene alkaloids. Two of the more well-known alkaloids are mayteine and maytansine.
