Each bag contains 4 oz of organic or wildcrafted blue vervain powder, milled fine, from the USA. The plant is Verbena hastata, known as verbena azul in Spanish. One ingredient, nothing added. WHAT IT IS AND WHAT IT IS NOT: a tall North American wildflower with narrow spikes of small blue purple flowers, found on damp ground and meadow edges across the United States and Canada. It is not lemon verbena and it is not cedron, which are different plants people often mix up with it. HOW TO PREPARE IT: stir a quarter to a half teaspoon into 4 fl oz of boiling water, mix well, cover and let it stand 2 to 3 minutes, then drink. Start at a quarter teaspoon, because a powder is more concentrated by the spoon than a cut herb. Stir it again before drinking, as powder settles. TASTE: bitter, green and slightly grassy, with the bitterness sitting at the back rather than the front. Most people take it as a small shot rather than a mug. OTHER USES: traditionally made into a tincture, and used in salves, lotions, ointments and soaps. Store tightly closed in a dry place, 59 to 86 degrees F.
